INSPIRE Conference Krakow great success

4th INSPIRE Conference in Krakow a global event

The INSPIRE conference “INSPIRE as a Framework for Cooperation”, was jointly organised by the Joint Research Centre and the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography of Poland. The Conference was a tremendous success. Attracting 670 participants from 50 countries, it clearly has become a truly global event where scientists, engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, managers, administrators, and representatives of civil societies find common ground on issues concerning spatial data infrastructure development.

INSPIRE cornerstone for modern environmental policy making

The opening plenary featured the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr.Potočnik The Commissioner placed INSPIRE, beyond any doubt, as a centrepiece of environmental policy development. The video of his speech can be viewed on the INSPIRE Forum.

INSPIRE goes global

The fact that INSPIRE is more and more becoming a driver for Global Spatial Data Infrastructure development, and the size and the international nature of this year’s event justified issuing the http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/documents/INSPIRE_/Krakow_INSPIRE_2010_Declaration.pdf" target="_blank">Krakow Declaration This declaration calls for support to the ongoing and future initiatives to build national SDIs in non-EU countries, in particular in EU neighbour countries, with the use of INSPIRE Implementing Rules, specifications, and guidelines; and for the proliferation of the INSPIRE methodology and know-how as a base for global initiatives related to spatial information. This declaration was adopted by the closing plenary.
