Eurogeographics have made available the presentations of the recent Protection Services Webinar (26th November) on-line.
Obligations under INSPIRE are driving us to publish more and more web services with our data - WMS, WMTS, WFS, etc. However, not all web services are 'open' in the sense of either 'open access' or 'free of charge'.
There are a number of reasons why a service must be 'protected' - data security, data sensitivity, IPR licensing, charging, performance management, marketing. The issue facing all of us is how to do this in an interoperable way. There is quite a lot of activity in this area, but no clear standards which we can adopt. It is an issue which is wider than the 'geo' world too.
The European Commission, is now, beginning to see that without a coordinated approach, we will not achieve the level of management required by INSPIRE.
The webinar allowed us to discuss our view on the state of play across EuroGeographics members, and how to work towards a common voice on this issue with the Commission.
Both sessions included two presentations and was followed by questions and a discussion
